Alaska Mapping Products, Services, and Strategies

Description:

Alaska Mapping Products, Services, and Strategies

Part 1:  BIA Geospatial Programs and Services

The Division of Resource Integration and Services is a fairly new Division within OTS that seeks to enhance collaboration and sharing of geospatial information and data resources among offices, programs, field offices and Tribes to promote a BIA-wide management approach to inform and enhance priority initiatives, natural resource management and efficient use of bureau resources. Branch leadership will be presenting on some of the geospatial work their teams are doing as well as GIS software, training, and helpdesk support available to BIA employees and federally recognized tribes.

Presented by:

David Vogt, Chief, Branch of Geospatial Support, Lakewood, CO

Trisha Johnson, Chief, Branch of Geodata Examination and Validation, Keller, WA

Part 2:  Alaska Mapping Initiative

The Alaska Mapping Executive Committee (AMEC) coordinates the modernization of critical Alaska map layers. Executives from multiple federal agencies and the State meet to prioritize and coordinate mapping objectives. AMEC currently promotes acquisition of several digital map layers including Imagery, Elevation, Terrestrial Hydrography, Wetlands, Vegetation, Coastal Shorelines and Bathymetry.

Tracy Fuller, Alaska Mapping Program Manager, US Geological Survey, Nampa, ID

Sydney Thielke, Regional Wetlands Coordinator, US Fish and Wildlife Service, Homer, AK

Part 3:  The Power of Partnerships in Supporting Data Driven Decision-making – Alaska Geospatial Office

The Alaska Geospatial Office (AGO) provides strategic oversight of the state’s geospatial technology portfolio. AGO works to advance the use of geospatial technologies as a tool for better decision-making in Alaska. We accomplish this by coordinating statewide geospatial initiatives through the Alaska Geospatial Council and managing the State Geoportal for public access to the data, resulting in cost-effective ways to create, access, and apply geospatial data and technology. Our goal is to ensure that current, reliable, high-quality geospatial data are available and are easily accessible to decision-makers.
